2017 NHS Eidt Scholarship Winner

Elise Sullivan, News Editor

Every year, Norwalk High School awards the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior who is the member of the Kevin M. Edit National Honor Society. This year’s winner is Gracie Bradley (’17).

“I found out that I got it on April 5th and I found out from a phone call,” Bradley stated.

The $100,000 scholarship is awarded in memory of Kevin Michael Edit, a former NHS student, who passed away due to cardiac arrest during his freshman year at Boston College. In order to receive the scholarship, the student must be a senior in high school, a member of the National Honor Society, and in the top ten percent of their class at the end of their junior year.

When asked about how Gracie felt when she found out that she got the scholarship, she explained, “Well, I immediately started crying…I was obviously very excited.” She continued, “It was really overwhelming, when you haven’t received it you don’t know how you will feel, it could go either way.”

According to Kevin’s Fund, the scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies achievement in academics, athletics, arts, and commitment to religion and community service.

Bradley is heavily involved in her community, inside and outside of Norwalk High. “Inside of Norwalk High, I am involved in Unified Sports, Link Crew, athletics, so lacrosse and field hockey, and Bears Beating Cancer.” In terms of how Bradley spends her time outside of NHS, she is “involved in St. Thomas church choir.”

Throughout her high school career, Bradley has made a remarkable impact on her community while simultaneously succeeding in her academics. Bradley plans to continue her academic career at Furman University, where she will be attending in the fall as an undecided major.

Congratulations to Gracie Bradley on winning this year’s Eidt Scholarship. The students and faculty at Norwalk High School are all very excited to see where you will go after high school and we wish you luck on your future endeavors.
